Irrational Quest For Beauty Tour 2010
Monday, July 26, 2010 at 02:12PM I am really hoping you are all are managing to stay cool through what seems to be one of the hottest summers in memory.
The new album, The Irrational Quest For Beauty is available now. It is the result of creation I did around evenings of poetry and cello I presented here in Ashland, and creation I did around music for a major dance work, and work I did to create Musical Portraits for people, and some spontaneous improvisation inspired by my play in Lithia Park here. The album is more layered than the first - there are only two completely solo pieces - and the rest have multiple cellos, grand piano, some exotic plucked instruments, and one piece is actually a symphony of sorts - the Symphony of the Sea of Lost Wishes.
So I am pretty sure you will enjoy it. I will have a video on the site this week that gives notes on each piece - so you can go have a look by Friday.
And, I am leaving here for Nashville on the 9th of September - from there to head north over the next several weeks to perform a series of house concerts, first in the Midwest, and then in the Northeast. These will be evenings that will feature music from both albums, some solo, some performed with backup tracks, and there will be some poetry woven in throughout - words from Rumi, Neruda, Mary Oliver, Billy Collins and Naomi Shihab Nye. These have been beautiful, relaxing evenings here in Ashland, and I want to share this with as many people as possible, so this message is an inquiry with two parts:
1) Would you be interested in coming to a house concert? ( and where do you live, in case I am doing one there I can let you know)
2) Would you have any interest in hosting a house concert? This would involve inviting 15-20 friends over who will pay $10-$15 to enjoy a spectacular evening of music presented in my own unique off-the-hook style ;-) - and maybe hosting me for a night before I head off down the road, leaving a silver bullet behind as a memento. Please call me at 541-973-7415 or email me if you think this might be possible. I am open to doing tours down South, in the Southwest, Pacific Northwest, and down the West Coast over the next year, so this is the time to start planning...
Thank you for all your support and kind words - I hope to see you soon, and play some music for you and your friends!
